Kawaii Makeup Tips For Beginners

I think it’s important to know where to start if you are just beginning with the kawaii style and it’s useful to have resources. So here are my tips for beginners to make it easy.

  • Don’t spend a lot of money. I recommend starting at your local drugstore. Buy makeup that isn’t crazy expensive because you need to know what works for you before you start spending great amounts of money.
  • Know your skin type. Different products (particularly foundations) are geared more towards oily skin or more towards dry skin. So know which one you are. Buying the wrong foundation could break you out.
  • Buy an eyeshadow palette that is practical. The best way to learn is to have a palette you will actually use and that you can learn with. Don’t buy a crazy expensive one, unless you just have all kinds of money. Colourpop has great palettes though, and so does Morphe. Check those out.
  • Learning to use a brush tip liquid eyeliner first is like learning to drive a stick shift first. I recommend learning to apply liquid liner with a brush tip first. That’s how I started and it made a felt tip that much easier.
  • You don’t have to do every step. There are still steps I skip. I don’t use false lashes, I don’t always wear lip product, and I only recently started filling in my eyebrows. Do what you feel comfortable with. You don’t have to be a master in the beginning.
  • Invest in products that can be used in multiple ways. Buy face palettes that can also be used as eyeshadow. Buy brushes you can use in several ways. This allows you to really invest in good-quality products without breaking the bank.
  • You don’t necessarily need an eyeshadow primer. Some people do. But for the most part, it’s not a necessity. If you want you can use concealer as a primer. It works for me, but I don’t always see a huge difference.
  • Always blend. Be sure to always blend your makeup. Especially your eyeshadow. It’s important that no matter what look you do that you blend all the colors so they don’t look choppy.
  • Do your eye makeup first. Doing your eyes first makes it easier to clean up or start over if you mess up. Also, some eyeshadows are super loose and fall onto your face. If you do your face makeup first, it’s harder to wipe that away.
  • Always use a primer. Never put foundation directly on our face. It has chemicals that could damage your skin. That layer of protection could help prevent breakouts.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment. The key to getting better is to practice. the key to practicing is trying new things. It’s just makeup. It will come off.
  • Always remember this. The key to kawaii makeup starts with great skincare. Always take your makeup off at the end of the day. Wash your face twice a day. Fall into a good skincare routine. Makeup washes off, your skin doesn’t. I always recommend investing more in skincare products than makeup.
  • Match your outfit and accessories style. Make sure to check out this guide to understand different fashion aesthetics.

How Long Do Makeup Products Last?

All beauty and Skin Care products go bad. However, if you are like me, you don’t know when they actually go bad. Well after quite a bit of research I reached a pretty fair conclusion about how long your makeup actually lasts. It’s time for me to start tossing a few things.

  • Mascara and eyeliner: 3 to 6 months
  • Foundations and concealers (of all forms): 6 months to one year
  • Powder-based products (including blush, bronzer, etc.): two to three years
  • Lipstick, gloss, and pencils: 2 to 3 years

How Long Do Skincare Products Last?

  • Cleansers: One year
  • Toners: Six months to one year
  • BHA or AHA exfoliants: 1 year
  • Facial or body moisturizers and serums: 6 months to 1 year
  • Lip balm: 1 year

Fall Beauty Essentials

These fall beauty essentials will help make the transition between Summer and Fall a bit smoother. These are all things that I use and keep stocked at all times during the Fall season.

  • Moisturizer. Though it is important to wear moisturizer all year, it is important to have it during the Fall. The air gets particularly dry and using a good moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out is essential.
  • Dark Lipstick. There is something about Fall that screams dark lipstick. It can be anything from berry to red to dark brown. Dark hues look great in Fall.
  • Matte Blush. Blush is important because it brings a flush of color back into your skin. Tans start fading in the Fall, so it’s good to have blush so you don’t look washed out.
  • Highlighter. Highlighter is good to have all year as well, but I think it’s great in the colder months because it gives you a glow you may be lacking from not being in the sun as much.
  • Bolder Eyeshadow. Fall is the perfect time to bust out super dark shadows and experiment with different looks.

Winter Beauty Essentials

With winter comes cold weather and frigid winds. Our beauty routine could use a transformation as we head into these cooler months. There are a few things that doing could help your skin feel fresh and hydrated. The air can make our skin and hair dry, which could alter the way our makeup looks.

  • Always remove your makeup. Keeping makeup on too long with the dry and frigid air can make it stick to your face. It can also sink into your pores. It’s important to remove any dirt and unnecessary oils so that your face has a fresh start.
  • Use a hydrating facial cleanser. If you don’t already, switch your cleanser to one that is hydrating. Use this twice a day, in the morning and night. This will help add moisture to your skin that will help keep you from feeling dry.
  • Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. That dry skin leads to dead skin which leads to skin feeling heavy and rough. Exfoliating takes away that dead skin and leaves you with a more glowy complexion.
  • Use facial oil. Whether you add it to your skincare or your makeup routine, it’s important to add good oils back to your skin. Washing and exfoliating can strip your skin of all the bad things, but face oils can add the good back to your skin.
  • Apply heavier face creams. Moisturizers are so important. They are specifically designed to put the right amount of hydration back into your skin based on what your needs are. This is one of the most important steps for winter.
  • Use eye creams. I used to not do this, and now that I do I notice such a huge difference. Your eyes are such a delicate part of your body and they need hydration in the winter as well. Under-eye creams help with this.
  • Go for a hydrating mask. Masks are so important because they help give us what our skin needs. Hydrating masks are important because they sit there and your body really soaks in what it needs. This goes for both skin and hair.

Those are my beauty tips for winter! What are some of yours? After taking care of your cute makeup then it is time to dress up your kawaii outfits. Do you have any other tips?
